John Winston Ono Lennon, nacido en Liverpool el 9 de octubre de 1940, músico y compositor, uno de los fundadores y miembro carismático de la banda inglesa "The Beatles", activista por la paz mundial, marido de Cynthia Powel (primero) y de Yoko Ono (después) y padre de dos hijos fue víctima de asesinato el 8 de diciembre de 1980.
John Lennon, nació en el seno de una familia humilde en plena Segunda Guerra Mundial en la ciudad de Liverpool. Su infancia fue complicada. Sufrió el abandono de sus padres, vivió con sus tíos maternos casi toda su infancia y juventud, y desarrolló un carácter inquieto y complicado.
Su madre le regaló su primera guitarra cuando tenía 15 años y John aprendió a tocarla (entre otros instrumentos como el banjo o la armónica) y, poco a poco, fue entrando en el mundo de la música formando grupos musicales con amigos y vecinos.

Tras varias horas en el estudio de grabación la pareja vuelve en limusina a su apartamento de Manhatan. A las 22:50 horas la limusina en la que iba la pareja, en vez de entrar en el edificio, deja a John y a Yoko en la puerta del mismo. Varios testigos ven a una persona (Mark David Chapman) parado debajo del arco de la entrada del edificio. Yoko Ono va delante dirigiéndose al portal, John le sigue de cerca. Al atravesar el arco de entrada, Chapman empezó a disparar su arma, un revolver 38 Special con balas de punta hueca, hacia la espalda de John Lennon. El primer disparo fue fallido y dio en una ventana del edificio Dakota, provocando sólo daños materiales. El resto de las balas disparadas, un total de cuatro, impactaron en el cuerpo del cantante. Dos de ellas dieron en su costado izquierdo y, las otras dos en su hombro izquierdo. Las heridas provocadas fueron de elevada gravedad, siendo una de ellas prácticamente mortal al haber atravesado su vena aorta.
La estrella del rock aun pudo andar unos pasos y, tras subir las escaleras de la entrada, se desplomó en la garita del conserje diciendo lo que sería su última frase: "me han disparado". El conserje, tras tapar el cuerpo aun con vida de Lennon con su uniforme, llamó a la Policía.
Mientras tanto, su asesino no había huido tras los disparos. El portero del edificio, José Sanjenís Perdomo, pudo quitarle el arma de la mano y alejarla con el pie. Chapman, de forma calmada, se quitó el abrigo para mostrar que no poseía más armas y se sentó a esperar la llegada de la Policía.
La primera patrulla que llegó, en apenas unos minutos, se hizo cargo de un tranquilo Chapman, el cual había sacado un libro de bolsillo ("El Guardián entre el Centeno"), libro que aseguraba haberle inspirado para la comisión del asesinato . La segunda patrulla, ante la gravedad de las heridas llevó a Lennon al Hospital Roosvelt. En dicho Hospital entró ya en parada cardio-respiratoria y, tras 20 minutos intentando su reanimación, se dictaminó la muerte del cantante a las 23:15 horas.

John Lennon, was born into a humble family in the middle of World War II in the city of Liverpool. Her childhood was complicated. He suffered the abandonment of his parents, lived with his maternal uncles almost all his childhood and youth, and developed an uneasy and complicated character.
His mother gave him his first guitar when he was 15 and John learned to play it (among other instruments such as banjo or harmonica) and, little by little, he entered into the world of music by forming musical groups with friends and neighbors.
He formed the group The Quarrymen whose members were changing and including those that, finally, would integrate the world-famous musical group The Beatles with the components that formed the band until its separation in 1970.
After a few years of musical and personal development with The Beatles, the 1970s was for Lennon a time of experimentation, personal and ideological revolution, introspection and individual artistic creation. At this time he developed his activist side gaining numerous and powerful enemies.

It was five o'clock on the evening of December 8th, 1980. John and his wife Yoko leave the Dakota building (a luxurious building in downtown Manhattan in New York). They go to the recording studio where they are mixing one of their last musical creations, "Walking on thin ice". At the exit of your building, as usual, some fans are waiting to take pictures and ask the couple of artists for autographs. One of them, Mark David Chapman, obtains the autograph of John, moment that is immortalized by the photographer Goresh. Hours later, Mark David Chapman would assassinate John Lennon in cold blood.
After several hours in the recording studio, the couple returns in a limo to their Manhattan apartment. At 22:50 the limousine in which the couple went, instead of entering the building, leaves John and Yoko at the door. Several witnesses see a person (Mark David Chapman) standing under the archway of the building entrance. Yoko Ono goes ahead to the portal, John follows closely. As he passed through the archway, Chapman began firing his weapon, a special revolver with hollow point bullets, at John Lennon's back. The first shot was unsuccessful and hit a window of the Dakota building, causing only material damage. The rest of the bullets fired, a total of four, hit the body of the singer. Two of them were on his left side and the other two on his left shoulder. The wounds caused were of high severity, being one of them almost deadly having crossed its aorta vein.
The rock star could still walk a few steps and, after climbing the stairs of the entrance, collapsed in the concierge's office saying what would be his last sentence: "I have been shot." The concierge, after covering Lennon's body with his uniform, called the police.
Meanwhile, his murderer had not fled after the shots. The doorman of the building, Jose Sanjenís Perdomo, was able to take the gun from his hand and push it away with his foot. Chapman, calmly, removed his coat to show that he had no more weapons and sat down to wait for the arrival of the Police.
The first patrol that arrived, in just a few minutes, took care of a quiet Chapman, who had taken out a pocket book ( "The Keeper among the Rye"), a book that claimed to have inspired him for the commission of the murder. The second patrol, realizing the seriousness of the wounds took Lennon to the Roosvelt Hospital. At that hospital, he entered a cardio-respiratory arrest and, after 20 minutes of attempting resuscitation, the singer was pronounced dead at 11:15 pm.

John Lennon, one of the most brilliant and iconic artists of the 20th century, died at the age of 40 at the door of his house. The author of the shots, of 25 years old and with psychiatric problems, Mark David Chapman, to this day continues serving life sentence in the Correctional of Attica. He has often asked for parole and on all these occasions has been denied him for his utter disrespect for human life. Only on the last parole application did he feel regretful. In the year that begins now, 2016, he will have a new opportunity to be released.
